Strong customer authentication
You will have likely been contacted by your payment gateway issuer over the last 12 months advising you of the upcoming Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements that are being rolled out by the FCA.
SCA is a new requirement of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which aims to add extra layers of security to electronic payments. (such as a password or PIN). (such as a mobile phone, card reader or other device evidenced by a one-time passcode). This will be applicable when people buy products from your Online Shop.
You will likely have already come across this when you have bought something online only to be prompted to login to your banking app to approve a transaction or a passcode being sent to your mobile phone to be inputted to approve the payment. This is what SCA is in the real world when buying online to reduce fraudulent transactions.
For your website to be set up with the new Strong Customer Authentication mtc need to upgrade your Payment Gateway to the newest version that has SCA compatibility in place where this will then prompt customers accordingly per transaction.
The deadline for SCA was originally March 2021 but the FCA agreed to a delay to 14 March 2022 due to Covid-19. The FCA has stated that there will be no further extensions to this deadline.
If you have an eCommerce website with mtc then please get in touch so we can make the upgrades ahead of the deadline date by submitting a support ticket or emailing aftercare@mtc.co.uk
